A freight train on the N and W near Crooked Run, one mile from Riverton, derailed after a rail broke, killing two brakemen Charles Metzer and William Daly and injuring several others. The accident halted rail service for hours and drew a large crowd as survivors received aid and funeral arrangements were set for Metzer and Daly.
