Ex service men paraded through Hagerstown yesterday afternoon on Armistice Day. Khaki and blue uniforms drew spectators who clapped in the damp November air as memories of five years past returned. Half the city took a holiday to observe the occasion.
William R. Pope of Sifty second Cavalry Division led a parade of colored ex service men and colored lodge of Odd Fellows in full uniform from North Jonathan street through Washington Potomac Charles and Nash. The Legion Fair in Public Square formerly Royal Woolen Mills was crowded last night with many fine articles on sale and strong business.
An old advertisement urges mothers to use California Fig Syrup for children of all ages. It promises easy, natural bowel relief with directions printed on the bottle and warns against imitation syrups. The plea emphasizes urgent care for fretful children and tomorrow’s health.
George L. Virts about 27 and Claggett Thompson about same age were thrown from a motorcycle Saturday near Weverton while both worked as car inspectors for the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad. Virts died within six hours from a fractured skull and internal injuries. Thompson was bruised and cut. Virts left a wife and two children. funeral held at 2:30 yesterday, Knoxville Cemetery interment.
Gasoline prices dropped to 19 cents per gallon including state tax in Maryland and nearby states yesterday. P A Wood of Gulf Refining Co says this is the lowest since 1914, with expectations prices may fall further after year’s start. Oil men note more companies and stations entering Maryland, expanding market competition. An Automobile Club of Maryland investigation was conducted to compare fuel quality, though its findings were not released.
Notes indicate substances injurious to automobile engines and parts with sulfur detected in these oils. all examined items showed offending elements to a similar degree.
Members of Reno Post Auxiliary and Manefield Camp Auxiliary convene tonight at the Square to attend services in a body at the First Christian Church. Evangelist Hustov, billed as a singing evangelist and national chaplain of the Veterans Bow, is featured this week.
Oxford Pennsylvania celebrates Miss Appa Ochs who, despite being deprived of sight since infancy, graduates from the local high school with highest honors. The town notes her achievement with pride and congratulations from friends and family.
