Charles Alexander Gilkey aged 79 husband of Minnie Ohler Gilkey died after a lingering illness at his home 1028 Spruce Street on Tuesday at 3 15 am. He was born in Beaver Falls Pa and lived in Hagerstown 50 years. A former Hagerstown Shoe Co employee and member of the Presbyterian Church Junior C U A M Lodge Funkstown he was the last of his generation. Survived by his wife and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Thursday at 2 pm Norment Funeral Home with Revs Russell Butcher and Robert Wallace. Interment Rose Hill Cemetery. Denice Cecelia Anders infant daughter of George and Cecelia Anders of 370 South Cannon Avenue died at Washington County Hospital. Survived by parents a brother Mark William grandmother Irene Showe paternal grandparents Mr and Mrs Frederick Anders. Burial Monday in Rose Hill Cemetery.

In Blackwater England a chartered airliner bringing British wives and children home from the Middle East crashed into a woods near Blackstone Airport.
