A North Carolina woman suffered facial lacerations and fractured ribs after a collision on Potomac Street in Williamsport when a Bowers car made a U turn. Clare Pierce was admitted to Washington County Hospital. State Trooper Bowman investigated. Separately, Craig Carbaugh was fined for two violations after a Pangborn Boulevard crash. he paid penalties for failing to identify himself and reckless driving. He was also arrested later for permitting an unauthorized person to drive.
Transportation committee of the Chamber of Commerce drafts a plan to install and maintain traffic route signs at intersections. The State Roads Commission would supply signs and the city would handle installation. Recommendations, including approximate costs and locations, are to be submitted to the Mayor and Council within weeks. The committee works with Sgt Grason Daarnberger, traffic analyst of the police department.
Three Washington County organizations won prizes in the annual Veterans Day observance in Brunswick yesterday. The Morris Frock Post No. 42 drum and bugle corps won 100 dollars in its division. Other units taking prizes were the Clopper-Michael Post No. 10 honor guard of Boonsboro earning 30 dollars and the Ladies Auxiliary Dixon-Troxell Post, Funkstown, receiving 15 dollars.
Maryland and Delaware forecast extends five days of sunny days and cold nights with little day to day temperature change. Friday or Saturday may turn warmer with scattered clouds. Seven others were injured including John Thomas 47 and John Thomas Jr 6 from Frederick and Lyon 98 Dorothy May 11 Allen Lee 7 from Route 6 Frederick plus John R Willis 25 of Sykesville and Robert Seal 27 of Sykesville. The collision occurred at the Kent Lane intersection with the Seal car traveling west.
City building inspector issued permits for two dwellings and several improvements. Names include Glenn G and Phyliss L May for a Kenley Avenue dwelling valued at 14500, James Hellane for a rear living room and dining room addition on Church Street at 3000, Robert B Caltins for a East Wilson Boulevard one story dwelling with carport at 15000, Douglas P Ridenour for a two car block garage on Maryland Avenue at 50,000, Garnet M Gehr Sr for a rear office addition on West Washington Street at 0. One unit involves 870 Tighland Way with a stairway and apartment access at 450, and B C Witherspoons auto service station at Fairground Poltomac Avenue for 13500.
A 30 year old South American woman fought a burglar in a Baltimore hotel and recovered three rings valued at 5 000 dollars. She is staying with her father in law Carlos Guitteges a Cali Colombia rancher at Johns Hopkins Hospital for a checkup.
Prime Minister Eden interrupted a Commons debate to announce a cease-fire in the Port Said area. He said Egyptian commander discussed surrender terms with British command and had received a signal from General Sir Charles Keightley confirming the cease-fire. Meanwhile British French paratroopers landed in the Suez Canal zone in a first phase of an invasion to reopen the waterway.
The General Assembly voted 57 to 0 to back a four nation backed police force to halt the fighting in Egypt and withdraw Israeli forces from the Sinai amid uncertainty Israel would consent.
