October receipts at the Hagerstown Post Office fell for the third straight month after V J Day. Total receipts were $29 20.39 versus $32715 78 in October 1944. Postmaster Thomas M Simpson attributed the decline to war’s end reducing mailing demand as overseas and Christmas package mail dropped about 75 percent. Injuries Fatal To Mrs Hunter After Auto Crash
Mrs Mary Herman Hunter died at 5 this morning at the Hotel Alexander from injuries suffered around midnight on the Martinsburg Shepherdstown road. Her husband William D Hunter, driver in the crash, suffered concussion and cuts and bruises and is confined to bed. He said he was blinded by oncoming lights and they were en route to Hagerstown. The couple was brought here by a passing motorist and Mrs Hunter spoke with her mother Mrs H Guy Herman before dying.
