Washington May 28 The Senate defeated a motion to adjourn with a 40 to 40 tie. Vice President Dawes cast the deciding vote against adjournment and the House resolution was defeated amid applause. Earlier efforts by Senator Johnson to extend the session to act on Boulder Canyon Dam were also defeated.
Abel Wolman chief engineer of the State Board of Health praised Hagerstown's new water plant near Williamsport after a tour. The old Bridgeport plant will be kept in reserve this summer, then junked once the Williamsport system operates.
A proposal for unifying the Methodist Episcopal Church with the Presbyterian Church in the U S A was presented to the Presbyterian General Assembly in Tulsa Oklahoma and referred to the church department of cooperation and union with instructions to report before the next general assembly delaying action for at least a year.
In Fremont Nebraska on May 28 an automobile driven by Gil bert Anderson collided with a Chicago and Northwestern freight train causing the locomotive to derail six cars. The impact left one car off the track, and railroad officials expect damages near 4600 dollars. Anderson’s vehicle was demolished but he was unhurt. Railroad representatives said they may seek damages.
C. W. Reese proprietor of a Lettersburg hotel was found guilty of selling liquor after a 15 minute jury deliberation. A witness testified to buying a pint for $3 on March 15. Raid witnesses described 60 gallons of moonshine and labels. Hart pleaded guilty to selling a pint to a prohibition agent. Verna Devine was convicted of fake checks. Pratt, an employee of Cosie's Cafe, faced liquor charges. Stouffer and his father were also involved in related cases.

VALPARAISO Ind May 28 George Allen Chisholm 35 pleaded guilty to murdering his two sons Edgar 7 and George by drowning them in a canal at East Chicago His lawyers presented insanity and shell shock claims from his World War II service and injuries in France to mitigate punishment.
Representative Luther A. Johnson of Corsicana Texas his wife and daughter and a niece Totsy Berry of Mexico Texas were injured in a crash in Frederick Maryland between their car and a motorcycle carrying two African American men. Washington motorists aided the party and they received medical care at a nearby home. The two motorcyclists escaped serious injuries and all parties were to face a Frederick police court hearing on Thursday.
Washington May 28 Prohibition agents on open highway patrol will be in uniform within two to four weeks Commissioner Doran said uniforms will include caps and badges to make officers easy to identify and deter motorists from opening fire during stops. Louis Mishken died later from chest wounds. another is hospitalized with a thigh wound. a third with scalp lacerations. the fourth uninjured.
A powerful bomb wrecked the home of Cesar Asestra, ex lieutenant colonel of the Italian Army, in Buenos Aires. No casualties reported. Police attribute the attack to anti fascists, likening it to a prior consulate explosion. The balcony device created a large hole. windows shattered across nearby houses.
The Baltimore and Ohio main line between Washington and Cumberland reached full double tracking on the final stretch from Point of Rocks to Germantown after about 15 months of work by hundreds of workers. Train service was not interrupted. Additional upgrades included a modern Boyds station, a concrete subway, grade-crossing eliminations at Buck Lodge Germantown Dickerson, and improved approaches with overhead bridges at Germantown and Dickerson.
