Memorial Day services were held in Hagerstown Fenkinwa and Smithsburg to honor veterans who gave the highest sacrifice. The day included a memorial service at Funkatown followed by ceremonies at the World War Memorial and at the courthouse with G A R services.
Veterans paraded from the center to the cemetery as the Municipal Band led a service. Judge M. L. Keedy delivered a tribute, Lincoln lines cited, and wreaths were laid on the tablets and graves by Post members and officers. Messages from Grand Army leaders and remarks on national unity followed, with flags and bands completing the observance.
In Smithsburg Memorial services were held at 2 40 pm with a parade from the town to the cemetery. Rev Ferdinand Heese presided while Rev John B Holter delivered the memorial address. Hundreds attended as World War dead graves were decorated.
In Philadelphia an unidentified bandit with a crucifix tattooed on his arm and a NY cap was shot and killed after a morning hold up and robbery of Ronald Czarnofski. Policeman Posojer Qsmad heard cries and engaged the bandits, as Williamsport suffered defeat in the ensuing gunfire with Nottingburg Hore Company range.

Miss Mary M. Kaytor wins 50 gold prize for naming the new Hagerstown Public Square hotel to be built by the Hagerstown Hotel Company. The Monte Vista was selected from 2500 submissions after judges considered many names and eliminated lesser nominees. Construction to start within sixty days as stock cases proceed.
Mrs. Mary M. Zimmerman widow of Dr I M Zimmerman is seriously ill at the home of her daughter Mrs John Barton. A brief notice notes her condition and family ties with the Zimmerman and Barton households.
