Tax Conferees At Odds Again Over Tax Bill
Washington May 27 Conferees from Senate and House clashed over details of pay as you go measures and a proposed 50 dollar deduction plus 75 percent abatement for many taxpayers. If the additional 50 dollar abatement is allowed, total relief could reach around seven billion dollars, while expected revenue from 1942 personal income tax remains about ten billion. Republican Leader Martin urged compromise to avoid further wartime tax hikes and supported a pay as you go approach as a step beneficial to taxpayers and Treasury.
