Grange Official Will Be Speaker At May Pomona Meet

One of the speakers at the Washington County Pomona Grange quarterly meeting on Saturday May 26 will be R L Crickenberger deputy of the State Grange. The Hancock elementary school hosts the event with the morning session at 10 o clock and the Hancock and Piney Plains granges as hosts. All business will be in the morning. The afternoon program includes Crickenberger's talk and a concert by the Washington County Homemakers Chorus.

Leader Bowser Arrives in Berlin for Military Police Duties

Schulberg to Appear Today Before House Committee

Washington May 23 Author Rudd Schulberg said he joined the Communist party briefly in the late 1930s but left it to avoid dictation of his writing. He testified he drifted into the Young Communist League and the party from 1937 to 1939 and broke with it in 1938 at age 26. He maintains no association with the party in ten years. Ferrer to testify after more questioning following a full day in the witness chair.

He clarified he was not a Communist or sympathizer and admitted mere carelessness for allowing his name to be used with movements later identified as Communist front organizations.

Four Dead and Three Missing in Kansas Flood

Volunteers and relief groups rushed to aid victims as Hig Creek overflowed, submerging 75 blocks in a northwest Kansas town. At least four died and three are missing with property losses estimated over 1.4 million dollars. Residents fled, some in nightclothes, as waters rose and emergency crews used cars, tractors, and road graders to evacuate stranded people.
