Lions Club Plans Convention Open Next Monday

The Lions Club advances plans for the district Lions International convention to open Monday at the Masonic Temple with a kickoff stunt and feature night. Registration runs noon to 6 PM, followed by a business session Tuesday at the Potomac Club, toastmaster J Cleveland Grice, speaker Roy Danzer, and a banquet with remarks by Ben Ruffin Alexander Armstrong and Herbert Larrick. The Municipal Band will play, a motorcade to Antietam battlefield or local plants is planned, and a ladies card party and luncheon are set for Tuesday. John E K Fraie was nominated for president, with a full slate of officers and directors announced for June 19 election.

Plan service Sunday at Rose Hill cemetery

A memorial service is planned for Sunday at Rose Hill cemetery following a committee meeting led by A. K Coffman. American Legion groups will gather at the Courthouse to honor fallen comrades with wreaths and taps, then march to the cemetery led by Reno Post G A R, the municipal band, Boy Scouts and other veterans and auxiliaries. A prominent speaker will be announced after Thursday’s final committee meeting.

Three Men Held for Liquor Possession Near Gettysburg

Pennsylvania highway patrol arrested three men near Gettysburg for whisky possession. Harry L Wetzel of Blue Ridge Summit, driver of the vehicle, faced an additional charge of operating an automobile while under the influence of liquor. Emory Hahn of Gettysburg and Irvin Wetzel of Emmitsburg were also held. Bond set at $600 by criminal court.

A Circuit Court jury awarded Mr and Mrs William E Baker a $1000 damages verdict against Groh Realty Company after about twenty five minutes deliberation. The Bakers claimed the firm earned a $1000 commission on a property purchase they say the firm did not aid in arranging. Brindle Brindle and W P Wachter represented the Bakers.
