Connie Mack Smiles as Athletics Chase 1925 Pennant

Connie Mack, after years of rebuilding, claims his Athletics now show the winning will to contend for the American League title. He cites Washington as the dangerous club, notes Chicago White Sox as a dark horse, and points to his improved lineup and confidence. Photographs reveal his long-ago frown and the current hopeful grin as the team vies in 1925.

American Association Postpones Louisville at Columbus

West Not Likely To See World Series This Year

New York report dated May 22 notes the West shows little chance of a World Series this year as intersectional play favors eastern clubs. Giants lead NL while Pirates stand as the sole strong western contender. AL entries, led by Athletics and Senators, push margins with Indians and Yankees in pursuit amid uneven western results. Boston Red Sox offer mild support, having won few games to aid western teams.

Baseball Scores and Highlights From the Day

Connie did not come to praise the Browns but to purge them. Jie did so with his Attle ball club the Athletics by a score of 20 to 4. Gordon Cochran equalling the modern major league record by scoring three homers. Gray won his eighth atrazine UURLC. With Johnson burning them across their chests, the Tigers fell before the Senators 6 to 2. Nine double plays enlivened the proceedings. Scots pitching and Young’s all around work staked the Giants to a 9 to 4 victory over the Pirates. Young won the game with a single in the eighth and saved it with a great catch of Smith’s liner when two were on in the ninth. The Yanks stopped out of character long enough to administer a 6 to 0 drubbing to the Indians. Hawks went on another rampage with a homer to give the Phillies the victory. The Red Sox sunk flankenship with a bird below the waterline in the seventh and won from the White Sox 9 to 4. Hornsby smote his ninth homer of the year but it didn’t stop the Cards from finishing second to the Braves, 12 to 3. Vance fanned 10 Cubs but caved in during the ninth and the Dodgers barely failed to the wire to win 6 to 4. Hay, however, breezed Hartnett, who previously had hit his twelfth when the pinch came in the ninth. How busy isn’t as important as why busy. The best in congratulated. Most mosquitoes are awaited.
