United States and foreign observers report rebels on the Coco river near the east coast of Nicaragua attacked the wife of an American named Miller. Miller was away. rebels looted valuables and destroyed what they could not carry. Earlier in April rebels raided Sang Sang and nearby villagers.
Charles J. Spalding, a noted local realtor, bought the Tammany farm of Mrs. Chas A Little fronting about a mile along the Williamsport pike between Halfway and Williamsport. The sale contract was filed today in the courthouse. Details of future plans remain undisclosed though rumors say a developing syndicate may be involved and Spalding may occupy the farm.
President Calvin Coolidge signed the Mississippi river flood-control bill today in Washington. The measure aims to improve flood defenses and management along the Mississippi River amid ongoing concerns about seasonal flood risks.
Geneva May 15 Japan officially sent two documents to the League of Nations explaining why troops were dispatched to Shantung China. Sato Japanese minister in Paris said the declarations from April 20 and May 9 show Japan acted to protect Japanese residents and maintain rail communications after railway destruction.

I q Lannin former owner of the Boston Red Sox and Roosevelt Field died after leaping or falling from the ninth floor of the Granada hotel in Brooklyn. He had just visited a room on the ninth floor to inspect plastering and was found dead on the rooftop extension. Lannin, a major baseball magnate, paid $10 000 to release Babe Ruth and was noted for a salary over $100 000 in that era.
The Maryland State and District of Columbia Federation of Labor will meet in Hagerstown starting Monday May 21 for a three day session at Moose Hall. About 175 delegates from Maryland and the District of Columbia attend with Irvin Hamilton of Cumberland expected to seek re election while facing opposition. The election occurs Wednesday with O W Morris of Hagerstown serving as vice president and several local delegates listed from the Carpenters Theatrical Stage Employes and Typographical unions.
Edward H. Schmidt of Indianapolis, treasurer and disbursing officer for the Shipping Board, died suddenly in Washington last night after a heart attack. He served as the board’s treasurer and disbursing officer.

Three Roanoke Rapids men Edward Allsbrook George Smith and L W Thompson were found trapped under a car in a foot of water after it left the road and overturned about five miles from Scotland Neck. The incident occurred early today as rescue crews recovered the victims from the wreckage.

Flo Palmer formerly of Wagers Town, now hospitalised in Martinsburg in critical condition after a suspected suicide attempt in her apartment. A Hagerstown man discovered her unconscious, turned off the gas, and alerted police who are questioning an unidentified local man. Police seek motive as condition is life threatening.
W. C. Durant, New York capitalist and motor car builder, announced the purchase of a factory in Germany to manufacture Durant automobiles. The plant will be located at Siemensstadt, a suburb of Berlin.
A well known local florist reports 20000 young tomato plants destroyed by yesterday morning frost after an employee forgot to replace the sash on the hot beds. Plants cost twenty cents a dozen, making the loss substantial.
New York report says Mrs Alfred H Chapin reported a theft of jewels valued at $100,000 from a taxicab on May 14. Police investigate and seek witnesses or footage to recover the stones.

A deadly blaze swept Woodlawn Hall a two story frame dormitory at a Maryland college, killing one senior and another student as fire destroyed the sorority house.
