Destructive May Windstorm Hits Westminster Area
A severe windstorm Thursday uprooted trees along routes near Littlestown and Taneytown, damaging homes and farms in Westminster. Dozens of large trees including a white oak fell near Gilbert's Inn and Meadow Brook, with a windmill destroyed at Sterling Little’s farm. Traffic halted for hours as electric and telephone lines were toppled and crews worked to clear roads. The Greencastle area also reported uprooted trees amid heavy rain and lightning.
