The Sewerage Commission will forward audit reports for 1923 1924 and 1925 to the Mayor and Council and an audit of its books will be allowed. William Wingert chair states the commission will assist in a thorough exam while not surrendering its records. The Council demanded the books to determine debts before paying from the 1923 tax levy. Audits ended in 1924 due to funds. reports have been used since.
The commission voted to keep its books and did not resign, believing surrender would forfeit office. The Mayor and Council will be notified today. Mantamodus proceedings may be pursued to seize the commission's records.
The Arcade Block in Hagerstown, a valuable city property, transfers from Julia Hamilton Briscoe to four Amusement Company owners after a 10 year lease with option to buy at 275000. Improvements begin immediately adding foyer space rest rooms and a moved stage for road shows motion pictures and high grade musical performances.
An eight hundred gallon still with a sixty horsepower boiler was seized near Ringgold in Washington County by Prohibition Agents Foard Beall and others. The operation appeared recent and the moonshiners may have fled just before arrival. Nearly a hundred stills have been seized in the county in recent months. The raid involved Western Maryland Railway detective Chapman and Smithsburg constable Claude Ferguson.
Washington County fruit growers are urged by the University of Maryland extension service through County Agent M. D. Moore to spray against leaf spot powdery mildew and apple diseases. The past two weeks have provided favorable weather for disease development and growers are advised to act promptly.
Tee Sing, the first Chinese defendant in 25 years to face murder charges in Philadelphia, stands trial today for the killing of Dong Ming last October during a quarrel on the water. The case mentions involvement of the On Leong Tong and the Hip Sing Tongs amid the investigation. A separate note reports contractor W. H. Muller leading workers at the Boonsboro Weigh school site, with foundation work underway and building materials staged on site.
