Second Fatal Mishap Suit Set for Trial
Trial for the second of the Rockville grade crossing bus crash suits was tentatively set for June 3 as 17 cases removed from Washington county were brought to the Frederick circuit court opening. Fourteen Williamsport High School pupils died April 11, 1935 when a Howard Poe owned bus was struck by a Baltimore and Ohio train at Rockville crossing. Eighteen suits totaling 400000 were filed naming the railroad and Poe. In a prior Frederick trial the railroad was exonerated and Poe paid 4860. The mother of Mary Louise Downs leads the latest suit seeking 2000 per pupil allied to the first. Associate Judge Arthur Wikard presided as the term opened, with trial date June 1 tentatively set. Attorneys for plaintiffs and defendants listed. 139 trial rocket cases were called.
