North Daile residents Mr and Mrs William E Mentzer long term foster parents for the Children's Home Society since 1956. The Mentzers have housed newborns and toddlers up to four years old in their North Daile home. They view each placement as a temporary family addition and say heartbreak is offset by the arrival of a new infant. Mrs Mentzer, former Miss Mary Bowman, is the daughter of the late Mr and Mrs John Bowman of this city.
Edward Earl Barrow 64 died at home of complications after a short illness. Born in Winchester Virginia he lived in Hagerstown for 50 years and worked at Hagerstown Shoe Co. He was a member of the Order of Red Men Tribe 197. Surviving are wife Florence Metz Delauter Barrow daughters Evelyn Gregg Jane Goodwin Larie Marks Doris Ambrose and others as well as sons and extended family. Services Monday at 2 at AK Coffman Funeral Home with burial in Test Maven Cemetery. Also noted are Marvin Knowels Murray 93 and Rodney Reynolds with service details and survivors in Hancock and Clear Spring.
Data Bell Carrier Mrs Dora Bel Warrier formerly of House 4 Higieraiovern died at Mayisanaville Mennonite Home at 10 Friday evening aged 17. She was the daughter of the Institute Nancy Tetison Reynolds and
Prayer requests blessing for children to walk in Thy footsteps. Acknowledges Mary and Joseph, asks for holy guidance to mold Christian virtues and fruitful growing years. Signed by Winfield Borggaud, minister, Staten Island.
President Johnson carried civil rights and anti poverty appeals into New York the day after similar rhetoric in the Deep South. A British official reported only one of five transatlantic cables available linking Britain and the United States was functioning after mysterious telecommunication breaks. Cable ships were moving to repair the faults, with calls restricted until the issue is fixed.
