Dager EL Brooke Lee, in a formal statement issued Friday, announces he will not seek the State Comp office. He cites three years of Army service and the current term as Comp as reasons, saying personal affairs and attendance requirements prevent a State-wide campaign. He reiterates continued interest in the Democratic party and claims to have done his full share.
Secre tary Mellon asked Baltimore Collector William P. Ryan to resign without warning as part of a Republican sweep of federal officeholders. Ryan’s term ends in September 1923 and Charles H. Holtzman of Cumberland is named as the replacement after France pushed the move to reward GOP campaign work.
Lloyd Grossnickle and Oscar Keller of Bear Middletown were arrested on a warrant from the State Roads Commission for driving over a barricade and traversing about 270 feet of new concrete road between Middletown and Harmony. At a Friday hearing before Justice Kefauver in Middletown, both men were fined $50 and paid the sums.

John W. Mitchell and Clarence F. Adams, two Sandy Spring bank bandits and murderers of Francis M. Hallowell, rejoiced upon learning that John Kelly alias Frank Wilson alias James Whalen had joined their ranks. The two convicts smiled at the news as officers said Kelly had just been brought in, signaling punishment for another. A separate note reports a short circuit fire at Mrs. Alice M. Rohrback’s Braddock Heights residence, damaging a rug, scorching floors and burning telephones.
The Soldiers' Memorial Committee approved architect Edward Leber of York plans for a buff brick Middletown memorial building 52 by 125 feet. It includes a 600 seat auditorium, a large stage, dressing rooms, and spaces for the American Legion and public library. A 24 by 60 foot room above houses community events with a kitchenette, with the lower floor seating 375 and a 22 seat balcony.
A large crowd attended the Brunswick town council meeting at City Hall on Tuesday night. The mayor and four councilmen clashed over the bailiff appointment, and ex-Bailiff Bond was again nominated but rejected by Moler, Lloyd, Keenan, and Allgire, leaving no regular bailiff for another month.
James O Bailey a well known sbroker and lumber dealer reports seeing a rainbow at dawn after being noted for a midnight rainbow at Luray. He describes the bow as a gorgeous arc high in the sky.
Jacob Gout bought a can of lard from Mrs. Washington Sulvely Kak les Mills years ago and moved west without paying. Mrs. Sulvely’s heirs claim the debt plus interest, totaling 43.40 dollars, remains due.
