Fort Frederick and Braddock era described in county history
The heritage piece recounts Braddock’s expedition through western Maryland toward Fort Cumberland, with Washington and Franklin figures appearing amid frontier conflicts. It notes Braddock’s siege, Indian raids, and the march from Fort Duquesne toward safety, weaving in local places like Sharpstown, Williamsport, and South Mountain as context. Also covered is Michael G. Stathemyer’s return from Lackland Air Force Base for a brief leave, his assignment to the 41st Strategic Missile Wing, and his family ties to Hagerstown.
