Allied forces breached Axis defenses around Massicault and Chouigui as British armor led a double flank drive toward Tunis. German tanks and elite units were destroyed or captured, while Allied air power and naval strikes reinforced the advance, with a 40 mile front pressed toward Bizerte and Tunis.
Mr. Renner Charles J. W. Renner was elected Worthy President of Aerie 694 Fraternal Order of Eagles at the regular meeting last Wednesday night. He ran unopposed and plans to continue the work of predecessor J. Lloyd Masters as the lodge has grown with over five hundred new members in the past two years. Also chosen were Worthy Vice President Richard Scherer Worthy Chaplain Harry Metcalfe Worthy Secretary John R. Kerr Treasurer Harry L. Feiser Conductor Robert Munson and Trustee Charles W. Wilson for three years. The lodge will push its bond and stamp sale with April drives reporting 17170.50 in war bonds and stamps. the largest sale was $3000 by Ray mond Wells of Erie Pa.
The Duke and Duchess of Windsor are expected to arrive in New York next Sunday for an extended visit, according to the New York Herald Tribune. The newspaper learned of the plan from friends of the couple in the city.
Governor O Conor signed HB642 authorizing the Maryland Racing Commission to designate tracks and days for race meetings and allow transfers or refunds of license fees.
