A young, clean looking con man once operating in the city is now cleaning up in Martinsburg passing several spurious checks. Police believe he is a master mind directing confederates who do the actual passing of the checks. A man from this city hunted the swindler who had passed over $100 in worthless checks on his film.
Mrs. Anna Wilson of Cumberland sues husband Harold L. Wilson and Miss Margaret A. Himmler for separation and alimony and files alienation of affections suit in Circuit Court. Married in Hagerstown in December 1917, their home has seen ongoing trouble. A stray line notes a golden eagle observed flying over a mile per minute.
An enthusiastic Clearspring Community Club meeting at the school house voted to invite the County Farm Bureau to hold June in Clear spring. A committee led by C. L. Smith, Leo Cahill and Bernard Seibert was named to extend the invitation and organize. County Agent Moore urged a work program, with Richard H. Cushna Izaac Shank W. W. Seibert and M. C. Morton to aid. Dr. O K Hoffman cholera specialist spoke on hog cholera and noted none exists locally. About twenty five farmers attended.
Germany calls for end to occupation and for negotiations with the reparations commission. The note urges stabilizing the currency, removing unproductive expenses, and lifting political and economic restrictions. A copy was sent to Washington as Germany seeks American banking support if the indemnity offer is accepted.
Ethy Clifford Baker of this city and her husband plus two others were crossing the Potomac in a small rowboat when Mrs Baker, unable to swim, fell overboard and clung to a rock until her husband rescued her. The water was very deep at the fall point.
Government officials assess narcotics control in the United States, noting that while domestic manufacture and sale are tightly handled, large quantities of narcotics continue to be smuggled from foreign countries. The article contends most drugs sold domestically arrive via illicit import channels.
Williamsport town officials and the executive committee appointed by Mayor Taylor will meet tomorrow evening in the town council room to discuss plans for the centennial celebration set for July 4.

The Elks Club will host a card and bridge party tomorrow night for members wives and guests. Aiming to be one of the club’s best events, the evening will feature refreshments music decorated rooms and handsome prizes for card winners. Organized by house committee chairman J F France with members Louis Hamilton William C Hell J E Weissner and H P Zeigler. Howard Dorsey son of Mr and Mrs A W Dorsey Ridgely W Va, will be released soon after ten weeks in the local hospital for abscesses.
Executive Committee meeting of the Washington County Farmer s Association Farm Bureau to be held in the County Agent s office. In loving remembrance of Hila O Dorraugh who died three years ago on May 2, a daughter Nancy Dorraugh Jigefner writes a consoling tribute.
New York May 2 prices showed initial firmness then an irregular fore noon session with United States Steel slipping to 102 a year low while Crucible fell 2 points to 72. Stewart Warner down 2 to 1044 and Studebaker up near 1 to 118y. Sugar short covering lifted Cane preferred 1 to 65, then noon trading saw recovery with Studebaker up over 1 to 119 and U S Steel near 108. Baltimore and Ohio led rails, up 1 1/4 to 60 1/4.
