Two Berkeley Springs youths join the Monte-Vita Ranch Camp staff for the season. A severe storm caused damage across Frederick county farms and Emmitsburg. Lehamns orchard lost eighteen trees. Fairview Farm losses included a destroyed poultry house with 95 fryers drowned. Several roofs were torn off. telecommunication lines and stations were knocked out. Emmitsburg saw roofs blown off downtown buildings, blocked squares, and at least one factory roof ripped and wrapped around a tree. Electrical outages lasted until midnight with around 100 lines affected.

Eight Die In Dust Cloud Mine Disaster
Eight men perished in a dust cloud at the mine as three co workers returned underground to attempt rescues. Adam Harmon Everett Marshall of west Terre Haute and Frank Pangrazie of Caton were named among the rescuers. State and federal mine officials reported the operation paused after a closing order from March 25 and a limited crew remained for cleanup and a new shaft.
