Wage Talks Extended For Steel Workers Union

The CIG Steel Workers Organizing Committee announced that its current agreement with U S Sigel Corporation has been extended from March 31 to April 30 to permit continued wage negotiations. The union and Carnegie Illinois Steel Corporation officials, a major unit of big steel, have been negotiating for two weeks.

New Building Permits Rise in Hagerstown February

City records show Hagerstown issued permits totaling 31610 in February this year, up from 11061 in February 1940. January also exceeded last year with 16765 this year versus 14240. Builders foresee stronger demand citywide and countywide as workers come in and new homes rise.
