NPA imposes 25 percent cut in tire and tube deliveries
Washington March 24 The National Production Authority tonight announced a 25 percent cut in deliveries of tires and tubes for new passenger cars effective April 1 The control agency also said distributor inventories including wholesalers and retailers will be limited after that date to a one month supply Manufacturers will face a 24 percent reduction in tires and tubes to passenger car makers in Q2 as original equipment for new cars Officials cited mounting rubber defense needs and a shortfall in synthetic rubber production due to fires and plant shutdowns The government said rubber available for civilian use in April will be about 7000 long tons less than the monthly average of the first quarter Military rubber usage in April is expected to rise to 14000 long tons from 8600 long tons This cut may exceed the steel reduction planned for passenger car production in Q2
