The state and county will fund an extra compensation package for Washington county teachers totaling about $122 260 for twelve months from May 1. The state provides $20 per month for nine months. counties cover three months. Approximately 389 teachers gain, with the state totaling $1,530,000 from the bill.

In Washington on March 18 Federal District Court Justice T Alan Goldsborough awarded full custody of Joan Langan to John Langan after a six year legal battle with Joan Manners former Hollywood actress. The judge criticized Manners mental instability and ruled no visitation or shared custody. The dispute began February 25 when a Circuit Court in Montgomery County Maryland awarded Manners custody after Joan had lived with Langan for two years. Langan testified he and Manners married in 1938 after Joan’s birth. Manners claimed her former husband John L Manners is the child’s father and that her prior marriage to Langan was invalid.
MADRID March 18 A German news agency dispatch said Paris police probing a series of 25 deaths had recovered nine skeletons from a furnace and a lime filled sound proof room hung with mirrors so the victims could be watched from another room. The villa was owned by a sex mad physician whose brother admitted buying quicklime on orders but denied knowledge of its use.
Mrs. J. H. Kauffman of East Washington street reported the theft of $4 from her purse yesterday.
A stove exploded in the kitchen of a home on the 600 block of Pennsylvania Avenue yesterday afternoon. Firemen arrived after the alarm but did not enter the residence, and only slight damage was reported.
