Plans for the state encampment of the United Spanish American War Veterans to be held June 17 18 and 19 were outlined at a conference at the Chamber of Commerce. Attending were Mayor Elgin state officers of the War Veterans and leaders including Henry A Mc Nairn H Co Noakes M T Dotty and C A Tenn ey.
Headquarters will be established at Hotel Alexander with Bath Room and Chalet Room used for meetings of the veterans and Ladies Auxiliary. The program includes a parade and picnic at City Park and a banquet on Saturday June 1. Memorial services follow at Antietam cemetery. State officers spoke at the Joseph Byron camp meeting at the Armory.
The Mayor and Council last night discussed and tentatively adopted department budgets including public buildings general government salaries wages and the swimming pool. They determined the tax rate shall not increase above 83 cents per hundred dollars and aimed to reduce expenses wherever possible.
