Deadline midnight for first income tax installments
Washington March 16 First quarterly income tax installments and 1935 incomes are expected to far exceed budget estimates and last year. Midnight tonight is the deadline for payment of the first installments. Officials had budgeted a minimum of 43 million but privately expect 450 to 500 million. Last year March receipts were 321 million. For 12 days this month receipts totaled 45 million versus 30 million a year ago. A House Ways and Means subcommittee will review early returns amid a dispute over taxing undistributed corporate income with the National Economy League calling the proposal a trick tax. Henry H. Curran of the league denounced it as government intrusion into the poor man’s pocket.
