ANNAPOLIS AP The state insurance commissioner told a legislative committee Olympic Insurance Co of America must raise more funds within a week or face closure. Olympic, a Maryland firm with Baltimore offices, insures 6 000 motorists and could become insolvent without additional money. A Baltimore circuit court judge earlier declared National Motors Insurance Co bankrupt after showing a $485 000 deficit, affecting about 8 000 motorists. The receiver John H Coppage, also state insurance commissioner, said policyholders may recover part of their premiums. The committee approved two bills to aid insured motorists from insolvent firms, including extending time to obtain new coverage and notifying policyholders of potential cancellation after receivership.

Anthony W. Cianelli a 17 year old of 238 Hager St was convicted on three counts by trial magistrate James Strine in juvenile traffic court. He faced charges of speeding on Maryland Ave failing to stop for a flashing red signal and failing to stop for a stop sign. He was fined a total of 32 dollars. Police testimony described a 40 mph run on snowy streets and a no stopping decision due to traction concerns. He stated he was unaware of his exact speed. A second incident involved two teen drivers in a two car crash with fines of 15 dollars each. Additional cases include David E. Beaver and Connie Ann Stenger with minor speeding verdicts and acquittal respectively.
