The Williamsport Town Council opened its first meeting of the new administration with a prayer by Rev. W. C. Huddle. Burgess Richard G. Hawken swore in new officials and the council appointed officers, to include E. Lord Lemen, William N. Shiplay, William R. Mentzer, William T. Ainsworth, Russell E. McCardell, Leroy Castle, and treasurer Harsh. Committees named include Streets, Electric Lights, Auditing, Ordinance, Projects, and Community Park with multiple appointees.
Harry R. Rudy a Washington district pharmacist attends a two day meeting of boards of Pharmacy and Colleges of Pharmacy in Baltimore. Representatives come from Maryland Delaware New Jersey New York Pennsylvania and the District of Columbia.
Flying Cadets Nelson C. Samuels and J. W. Carson of Kelly Field were killed when their aircraft crashed three miles north of Camp Britis, San Antonio, Texas, on March 13. The incident ended their training flight and prompted an investigation into the crash.
Federal records show more than 1,000,000 dollars monthly spent for direct relief to Maryland people. About 0.8 of relief funds go to Baltimore. Over half the total supports food programs.
Valentine Cairo, 46, owner of the Rhode Island Fireworks Company, was killed and several buildings wrecked in an explosion at the plant. Mrs Edna Finch and three children were burned to death in a house fire in Indianapolis. The victims include Carol Jane 9 Frances 6 and Ernestine 4. The husband had left for work at a foundry. An infant and Mrs Jennie Cohey survived after rescue by Walter Raizner.

A Horton Line freighter driven by Fred Kershner climbed a five foot embankment and crashed into the east side of County Commissioner Dallas Ward’s store at Fayettes Crossroads just before 11 am. Hulvey’s beer truck overturned scattering cases. both drivers had minor injuries. The store occupants were unharmed.
In Frankfort a case against Vance Armentrout, editor charged with contempt for refusing to name the letter writer, goes before the Kentucky House of Representatives tonight or tomorrow. A special committee heard testimony and arguments, and if found guilty he could face up to six months in jail, a $1,000 fine, or both under the law.
Mrs Irene Young Wingert of East Washington street reported to police last night the loss of a brown pocketbook containing about $20 in cash a $200 check and her driver’s license among other articles.
Fire destroyed St. Peter Catholic Church in Ridge Maryland causing about 12000 dollars in damage. The church served the local Negro community and was adjacent to the Cardinal Gibbons Institute. Firemen saved nearby structures.

The State rests its case against Basil Banghart known as The Owl in the John Factor kidnapping and ransom plot. John Factor testified he recognized Banghart with a gun at the abduction and handed him a letter to Mrs Factor urging maximum money. Defense plans to argue Banghart was in Tennessee when the kidnapping occurred and that Factor faked the crime for stock fraud sympathy.
A committee from the better government league proposes transferring all Anne Arundel county roads to the State Roads Commission. The resolution, adopted unanimously, calls for the transfer at the earliest feasible date for the state's and county's best interests.
Miss Margaret Kreider 22 of Hagerstown said aviator Gnie Stanberry of Kansas slapped and was ejected from his car in Lancaster after he kissed her. Fire Chief Frank Deen intervened, was punched, and Stanberry was arrested after a wild street chase. He faces drunken driving and assault charges with a Wednesday hearing set.

Signs cited include a missing Leipic woman linked to Dillinger associates, a judge reporting direct word of Dillinger's armed approach, and repeated security alarms.

Gordon's office and alleged Smith had posed as a doctor during a street brawl aftermath.
In Sasebo Japan March 13 three men were rescued from the hull of the torpedo boat Tomozuru among 113 trapped. Rescue crews cut through a steel wall hoping eight more survive. Initial reports say eight held in the engine room managed an underwater hatch escape. The submarine lies bottom up as pumps remove water.
Columbus March 13 a bold plot to dynamite the walls of Ohio penitentiary to free Howard Bowman and Joe Filkowski life term prisoners was intercepted by Warden Preston E. Thomas. A decoded code message from Bowman to his brother Neal outlined securing quarters in Columbus and using a three point blast near the walls. The plan included raiding a national guard armory for firearms and fleeing in a fast car, then hiding on a local farm until safe to leave the state. The message was obtained March 2 from a prison visitor. officials withheld further details. The planned breakout aimed for a Sunday during church services.
London report says Laura La Plante, a film star, has filed for divorce from director William Seiter in Riga Latvia on grounds of incompatibility. She stated they remain friends and she will sign a waiver once received from Hollywood.
