Roosevelt economic advisers expect a gradual upturn beginning in April as production and consumption move toward balance. Officials cite the Fed index peaking at 128 in December and foresee a decline to 103 in April with a rise to 115 by late 1940, while noting large inventories may affect the pace.
Boskoop in the Netherlands hosts about 600 nurseries and is described as the world’s largest center for bulbs and ornamental plants.

Wanton fire at Corbett Street Chapel damaged the building and burned wiring in the basement about 1 am. A large floor hole and scorched furniture were reported as firefighters quickly contained the blaze. Rev. A. M. Dixon has led the chapel for months and 3. M. Crosawhite oversees the Sunday School. The White House was the first public building erected in Washington.
Frank T. Shaeffer of Westminster Maryland a prominent local businessman and former president of the State Firemen's Association died suddenly at his home after falling ill before a Westminster Fire Department meeting. He was a lifelong resident active in plumbing hardware and city council service. Survivors include his widow three daughters and one son.
Richard Travinger of Security sustained serious injuries on February 27 when his car was struck by an engine at the Western Maryland crossing at Bissel. He is reported much improved.
Young Travinger lay unconscious for days after a crash. He suffered a base of skull fracture and other injuries. He was reportedly jumping when the accident occurred and was thrown clear of the wreckage.
