Hollywood Cowboy Tells How He Killed Escaped Panther
James Bacon reports from Qaks California how Hamblen and helper Page hunted a panther that escaped from Jungleland Compound. Hamblen fired a 30-30 rifle twice, with Page guiding light, killing the female panther after 36 hours on the loose. The zoo offered 1800 dollars for dead or alive, as families brought children to the compound. The tale frames Hamblen as a rugged hunter who faced the terror with improvised gear.
