London reports Stalin resigns as Minister of Soviet Armed Forces, citing pressure of his main duties. Gen. Nikolai Bulganin named as successor, described as a skilled administrator. Unofficial sources say the change likely reflects workload rather than political shift.
Col Gen. Andri A. Zhdanov is relieved as chairman of the council of the union of the supreme Soviet at his own request citing work pressure. Julin remains Prime Minister and retains top party posts as head of the Politburo and Orgburo as general secretary.
The Manufacturers' Bureau dinner in the Maryland Room of Hotel Alexander will proceed at 6 30 tonight with two speakers. Beckwith of Pitometer Company discusses a recent city water system survey and John West of the Association of Factory Mutual Fire Underwriters covers water pressure and fire safety. A separate bill authorizing city pawn brokers and second hand dealers regulation passed the State Senate and advances to the Governor.
FHA officials will discuss the Rental Housing Program for veterans at City Hall at 7 30 with city and county officials and local housing interests. Muller says the agency will use all facilities to boost veteran housing and expects a stepped up building program in 1957 with relaxed controls and higher material supply.
