U S forces press into North Africa with heavy attacks on Tunis and La Goulette Harbor. American artillery supports British First Army as Axis positions near Sedjenane are shelled and four armored cars are lost. another infantry push near Medjeze Bab is repelled.
British and Allied air forces hit Axis forces around Beja Mateur and Sidi Bouzid while Rommel withdraws toward the coast after the fall of Sbeitla and Feniana to American troops. Vorarzim’s northern line suffers heavy losses. three days of fighting claim 500 killed and 24 tanks. Luftwaffe and Italian planes suffer 25 losses in a day.
Fairchild Aircraft Division leased the first floor of Odd Fellows Temple on South Potomac Street and subdivided it into engineering and executive offices. The new space, called a chant, will host data on the AT-21 trainer and PT air plane for prime contractors, with Major Milton Jakosky of the Army Air Forces assigned to the plant.

County officials say Bellevue farm, a 107 acre parcel near Hagerstown, offers an ideal site for a Western Shore state hospital. They argue the Bellevue location, close to a supply center, remains suitable if the county concedes its almshouse lands to the state construction program.
