W Herr Scott former State Commissioner of Agriculture is the Democratic candidate for North Carolina governor after defeating State Treasurer Charles M Johnson in the primary runoff unofficial tallies show Scott with 216270 votes to 180155. The heavily Democratic state is expected to send Scott to office after November general election. In another runoff F Ertel Carlyle of Lumberton won the party nomination for Seventh District Representative over Hargrove Bellamy of Wilmington. The seat is held by Democrat J Bayard Clark who is retiring.
South Bend Indiana workers at the Bendix Aviation Corp. plant voted to strike despite a wage offer accepted by the United Auto Workers Council in New York. The action follows ongoing labor tensions and questions over compensation.
Bangkok June 27 The Siamese Ministry of Education ordered that no schoolboy may wear his hair longer than one centimenter about four-tenths of an inch. It notes no ban yet on girls' waves or updos.
Mrs. Kline claims that Maryland Republican leaders kept Dewey aligned members in place while ousting others. She says 21 of her Federation of Republican Women’s 51 chapter presidents were present, and opposes Bertha Adkins for Maryland national committeewoman, favoring organizational women leaders. Rinehart counters that none of the four losing delegates were ousted and asserts rules about seating.

Calvert County voters decide today if slot machines become lawful joining Anne Arundel and St. Marys. About 6090 eligible to vote 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Turnout expected high as county funds from licenses would support a hospital and general operations. Licenses set at 140 annually per machine up to four with 150 for each extra device. Minimum age 16.
The Bulgarian government accuses Greece of rebuffing its bid to renew diplomatic ties broken since April 1941 after German troops invaded Greece.
