Counterfeit Money Found In Receipts

A counterfeit five dollar bill turned up yesterday in the county in State tax receipts. The bogus money was a small fraction of the total as the day’s receipts aggregated over $45,000, County Treasurer Harry E. Keedy reported. This week may exceed last week in collections with the four to five percent discounts ending June 30. City collections will be large as no discount after June 30 with a four percent city discount.

Ragland Held for Court Action on Destruction Charge

Ragland Harry, 23, of 400 block Mechanic Street, arraigned in city court on malicious destruction of property. He is held for the November grand jury after allegedly tossing a brick through a plate glass window at Ingram's clothing store on Jonathan Street. Ben E. Breeden, night watchman.

A witness testified that he saw a man throw a brick, chased Ragland to a spot by the police headquarters, and was arrested as Lt. J. B. Brown came from the opposite direction.
