Mayor W. Lee Elgin announced strict enforcement of the citys fireworks ordinance. About six municipal employees will serve as plainclothes officers from July 1 to 4 to patrol for illegal discharge of firecrackers in all city sections. Fireworks remain illegal except on Independence Day under the plan.
Three trusties escaped from the Maryland House of Correction in Jessups on Sunday and may have fled in a stolen automobile. Named escapees are Howard B. Davis, 38, Elkton. John Conlon, 27, Baltimore. and Ellsworth Keane, 18, Baltimore, all serving larceny terms. Plainclothes officers are pursuing them as they are described wearing strapless gowns and wired to detect escape attempts.
An ordinance effective July 4 forbids the discharge of crackers within the area bounded by Prospect Church Mulberry and Baltimore streets. The measure aims to reduce fire hazards and neighborhood disturbances during celebrations.

The 74 year old Roane county farmer Felix Breazeale known as Uncle Bush sat beside a walnut coffin at Cave Creek Grove as a minister praised his life in a long funeral for the living. An 8,000 strong crowd heard the unusual service while hawkers sold sandwiches and a loud speaker failed at times. Breazeale autographed cards with an X signature and expressed pleasure at the proceedings saying this was his last funeral.
A plane carrying Mrs. Franklin D Roosevelt and guests from Arthurdale West Virginia diverted to Lancaster Pennsylvania airport when a storm approached. The party included Bernard Baruch New York financier Dr Lytell Adams president of Tri State Airlines Morgantown West Virginia and others.
R Miller, director of federal prison Personnel, traveled by automobile continuing east and planned to take a train later for the remaining portion of the journey.
A petition signed by hundreds of Hagerstown area businessmen will be delivered to the State Roads Commission by Mayor W Lee Elgin urging expedited work on the dual highway between Hagerstown and Frederick. The group asks prioritizing completion of the segment inside Hagerstown, which would cross the golf course. Appraisers met to value affected property but delayed when a Roads Commission representative failed to appear.
Hearings begin in Catlettsburg Kentucky on June 28 before a National Labor Relations Board examiner. The proceedings examine sweeping and unprecedented charges that the American Rolling Mill Company violated the Wagner Act.
