Lubbock Texas June 25 officers hunted four escapees from Lubbock county jail Ed Stanton Andrew Nelson Bill Coupe and J B Stephens after they overpowered Deputy Sheriff Carpenter and trustees using iron bars They kidnapped Walter Posey bank vice president and Campbell Elkins justice of the peace and fled in Elkins car toward Big Spring The escape sparked a large posse and a shoot to kill order was issued to pursuing officers

Famous flier Wedell dies in Patterson plane crash
James R. Wedell, 34, famed speed flyer and holder of the world land plane speed record, died when a Gypsy Moth teaching plane crashed near Patterson Louisiana. Instructor Frank Sneeringer was severely hurt. Wedell’s body was recovered from the wreckage. Wedell helped build the Wedell Williams Air Service and held the land plane speed record of 305.33 mph.

Rutland Air Collision Kills Two Executives
W J McMullin pilot and R L Oakes photographer for the aerial exploration survey of New York were killed when two airplanes collided 3000 feet over Rutland Vermont. Captain Herbert H Mills of Hartford saved his life with a parachute and landed after the crash amid maneuvers near the Rutland airport. The photographer’s plane had been circling the airport at 3009 feet taking pictures when both craft went out of control and wrecked a quarter mile apart. Neither plane caught fire.
