A Missouri Pacific Southerner passenger train derailed near Durand Kansas, injuring upwards of sixty with several likely fatally. Thirteen patients were admitted to St John’s hospital, condition listed critical for many, as doctors raced to treat the wounded. An investigation began, with a broken rail suspected.
Albert Heard, superintendent of the Water Commission, warned that another hour of rain last Tuesday would have brought the Edgemont reservoir collapse and widespread destruction in Greensburg and beyond. He described the dam as strongly built but vulnerable to prolonged high flow, with 25 to 30 workers repairing damage for two to three weeks. The spillway flood last Tuesday was the heaviest since construction, drawing many visitors to view the scene.
The United States Army Band will tour Europe next year and spend two months at the International Exposition in Seville Spain performing daily concerts of Latin American music. The War Department announced the trip has been authorized by Secretary Davis.

In Mansfield Ohio on June 25 Mrs Browning sustained lacerations and shock after a car crash driven by her manager Edgar Allen overturned. Her mother was bruised and Allen suffered a broken rib in the mishap.
June 25 dispatch says Soviet News Agency denied any signal from the ice breaker Krassin regarding Roald Amundsen, the missing Norwegian explorer. The Krasin has reported nothing about Amundsen yet. General Umberto Nobile remains aboard the Citta Di Milano at Virgo Bay recovering from injuries from the Italia crash on May 25. Nobile and his rescuers, including a Swedish flyer, continue ice condition reviews while Haljar and others search for missing crew.
Rome June 25 General Umberto Nobile, injured when the dirigible Italia crashed on polar ice, has a fractured shin and back contusion. Official bulletin says right shin bone is healing, right foot dislocated with tendon torn, and heavy lower right back hemorrhage. Recovery expected in about forty days.
Kaw Oklahoma Indians staged a dance in honor of Republican Senator Charles Curtis of Kansas. Elders carried on with tom toms and anklet bells as flappers wore bobbed hair and modern attire, honoring the senator and recalling his grandmother Julie Pappin’s 50 year old call to return to white relatives.
Report from Houston on June 25 notes Evans Woollen Indianapolis banker rising in delegate chatter as a possible Democratic vice presidential pick. The party included Bernard Baruch’s private car and figures such as Admiral Cary Grayson.
In Wichita on June 25 stock broker Py. Cornell Larsen of Strandberg McGreery and Company was shot in the back by a disgruntled customer during an argument over securities. Larsen accused Clarence J. Foy of being the assailant to police.

The U S Board of Mediation announced wage increases for 1850 clerks and freight handlers of the Union Pacific and similar boosts for crews on the Chicago St. Paul Minneapolis and Omaha line totaling about $67,000 a year affecting 1500 workers. Signalmen on the Nickel Plate Railroad also secured a 3 cent per hour rise.
A Bronx church funded gadget uses a motion camera to photograph a thief in a theft attempt at the poor box. The intruder triggered a buzzer, a priest responded, and the man confessed after seeing his image.
The 25000 dollar damage suit of Mrs Beulah D Clark of Cumberland against Dr M E B Owens Cumberland physician opened before a jury in the circuit court. She alleges negligence and improper care after a December 5 1925 broken leg left her crippled with a deformed shorter leg. Saul Preager and Harper Ballentine appear for Mrs Clark.
James Campbell a 25 year old Black man was instantly killed when the car he rode in struck an embankment and an iron post at the Frederick and Harpers Ferry roads intersection in Knoxville. Four others escaped serious injury including a white man. Campbell's body was crushed beneath the overturned vehicle. Also noted is a brief item about flier arrivals in Mexico City from Windsor Ontario after a fuel shortage forced a stop at Tampico.
Harvey M. West has been granted an absolute divorce from Blanche West, attorney Harp er Ballentine appears for the case. Six people died in a Topeka mishap when a car was struck by another vehicle, six fatalities reported.

A Kreider of Kreider and Reisner Aircraft narrowly escapes injury when a plane overheats during a test at Hagerstown airport. The aircraft tipped onto a field beside the runway, damaging the propeller but causing no serious injuries.
