Baker Hospital near Martinsburg, he recalled North African and Sicilian campaigns and offered views on Arab society. He praised Arabs as intelligent fighters and honest by their standards, noting prearranged marriages, multiple wives, and extensive bargaining in trade, and he projected North Africa as a strong postwar American market.
