Ocean City Md June 21 Eight hundred delegates met at two sessions as the State Department of the Veterans of Foreign Wars considered 32 pending resolutions. The proposals urged faster home construction for veterans and expanding National Service Life Insurance conversion limits from five to ten years after discharge. A federal veterans bonus proposal would grant overseas veterans up to 4590 and domestic service up to 3590. Guests included Lt Gen Albert Wedemeyer and W L Limberg. The convention ends tomorrow with officer elections.
About 2,850 Maritime Commission employees began a ten day involuntary unpaid leave ending in mid June. Chairman Vice Admiral W W Smith blamed Rep Taber and Comptroller General Lindsay Warren for the shortfall. Taber argued the fault lay with Smith, while Warren and Taber refused to approve transfers from reserve funds to cover wages. The agency had been warned two months earlier it was running over its appropriation.
