Orioles bolster roster before crucial AL push in 1957
Baltimore manager Paul Richards added five players ahead of the June 15 deadline boosting the Orioles for a first division chase. Joe Vann was recalled from San Antonio, catcher Frank Zupo signed, Dick Williams traded to Cleveland for Jim Busby, Billy Goodman acquired from Boston, and Ken Lehman obtained from Brooklyn. Also sent were Wayne Causey and Jim Pyburn to San Antonio while Williams and Fornieles moved to other AL teams. Goodman, a .300+ career hitter, came in hitting well over seven games with Baltimore. The club recently won 10 of 17 on a road swing vs Yankees A's White Sox Tigers and Indians, climbing to sixth in the league, 1 1/4 games behind fifth place Boston as injuries thin the lineup.
