John M. Guessford a 59 year old retired farmer hanged himself in a barn on his farm along the Middlebury Pike three miles from Hagerstown. Fearing financial loss from drought he had been distressed by drying cisterns and a drying well. His wife found his body dangling from a rafter by a cow rope.
June 19 report from Vera Cruz area says thirty rebels remaining in the stula area were executed in the past two weeks. Additional messages from Chihuahua and Coahuila military commandants say Adolfo De La Huerta loyalists have renewed border activities hoping to exploit tensions with the United States.
Dover New Jersey June 19 The sixth death from the Delaware Lackawanna and Western Rockport Sag wreck occurred today as John Krucek 69 of Chicago died at Dover General Hospital from injuries. Catherine Wilgermann’s condition was reported critical with little chance of recovery.
Former Congressman David J. Lewis of Cumberland urges safeguarding Western Maryland Railway communities including Cumberland Hagerstown and nearby towns from loss of trunk line status. He cautions against absorption by larger systems and calls for a detailed study of proposals to protect local industry commerce and social interests. Page 14.
Ten coal cars derailed at 3 30 this morning on the Western Maryland at Pen Mar delaying baggage and mail due on the 7 10 from Baltimore. Track cleared about 10. The 6 o clock Baltimore train returned to Hagerstown with passengers stranded on the other side. The eastbound freight train was the cause. investigation continued. One car injured none derailed cars remained upright.
Paris June 19 A dispatch from the Hague states Queen Wilhelmina of Holland was slightly injured at Chamonix when her automobile slid on a glacier near Mont Blanc. Three fingers of her right hand were bruised and her condition is not alarming. Also described is Norfolk and Western wreckmaster C L Jennings suffering a crushed left hand after an accident. An X-ray suggests the little finger may need amputation.
Elizabeth Hennberger of Smithsburg narrowly escaped death yesterday after diving from an embankment into a swimming hole near the town. She struck mud, lost consciousness for a time, and was carried to a Waynesboro physician where she quickly recovered.
Chicago June 19 Chief Justice Harry Olson of the municipal court, leading the Shepherd trial case, declared that regardless of outcome, Isabelle Pope McClintock fiance will gain possession of the McClintock fortune. He ruled the wedding contract binding and that Miss Pope will be declared lawful heir, receiving most of the estate including real estate and life interest, with about 200000 dollars left to her as widow.

Washington June 19 The Department of Labor announced food prices kept climbing in May 1 percent from April. For the year ending May 15 costs for all food rose 7.5 percent, and over the 12 year period the rise amounts to 67 percent.
The cabinet met to consider measures against Communists in France and colonies. Deputy Doriot and other Communist Chamber members are expected to be targeted. Premier Patologie will address the Chamber on the alleged Moscow agent activity and collusion between Communist leaders in Jaunca and the Tulal tribesmen invading French Morocco.
Cheyenne Wyoming June 19 Federal Judge Kennedy upheld the government’s annulment suit over the Teapot Dome lease. The ruling found the fraud allegations insufficient and affirmed the legality of President Harding’s order transferring the matter to the Interior Department while naming Sinclair Mammoth Oil and Bal in the dispute. The decision details the leasing process, naval oil reserve losses, and the roles of Navy officials and the Canadian-registered Continental Trading Company in the alleged scheme.
Roald Amundsen and five companions survived 28 days of harsh Arctic conditions after their planes were lost near Spitzbergen. The team pried equipment from a wreck, flew back to Spitzbergen, and are now ashore with meals and warmth. One aircraft remains abandoned as a marker of the journey.
