Seaver Leaves Mets in emotional farewell trade
Tom Seaver showed mixed emotions as he left Shea Stadium, joining the Reds after 12 Mets seasons. He recalled memories with teammates like Buddy Harrelson and Jerry Koosman, struggled to speak at his news conference, then wrote a final message to fans amid a 16 month contract dispute with Mets owner M. Donald Grant. The move ends a landmark era and sets up a Cincinnati debut against Montreal. The day also featured Ron Guidry’s three hitter for his first complete game and Ron LeFlore homering for Detroit in a Toronto win.
