William Fitzhugh Thornton Buckner aged 101, believed last surviving veteran of the Mexican War, died at his Paris home after arising at 6 am. He had retired since 1912 but remained active, walking downtown last Friday. Buckner was a Paris banker from 1871 to 1912.
In Baltimore today 24 year old Herbert P. Getz was fatally injured when a parachute failed to open after stepping from a plane at 6006 feet. Officials at Steinmetz Airways field said there was doubt the rip cord was pulled.
Mr Claude Potterfield hosted a social at his club house in Four Lacks on the Potomac for the De Molay basketball team and friends Friday night. The gathering featured card playing, supper, and vocal stunts with attendees including Evelyn Wachter Matthews, Elizabeth Garman, Louise Gilbert, Mariel Wiebel, Mary Barncord, Lois Bingley, Charles Miller, Robert Dudley, Harold Helm, Leslie Young, John Minnick, Raymond Robison, and Edgar Koons.
Lightning sparked a fire at a dairy farm off Clifton Weirs on the Darnesville pike near Rockville Friday night. A large barn was destroyed along with equipment feed and many implements. a tile silo was badly damaged. Loss estimated at 38090 dollars.

The first picking of raspberries is to begin the radar part of this week and by most growers Monday, June 17.
