Parachute Nylon Gown Worn At Towson High Graduation
Ellen Ransome received her Towson High School diploma in a gown sewn from nylon parachute fabric salvaged from a plane that was shot down last December. The parachute had saved her father James F. Ransome, a US Navy aviation ordnanceman, who jumped from the burning aircraft overseas. The piece was recovered by him and presented by his commanding officer. School bus mileage shows a 19 percent cut from November 1942 to April 1944.
