Flag Day Ceremony Set by Hagerstown Lodge

Preparations for the Flag Day observance are complete at the Hagerstown Lodge of Boys and Girls Scouts. Flag services will be held at 8 o clock Thursday in the lodge rooms attended by Scouts from Hagerstown. Rev W B McKinley will deliver the principal address and Calvert K Harile, past exalted ruler, will recount the flag's history.

Methods For Battling Rose Bugs and Garden Pests

County Agent Miton D. Moore issued directions for control of rose pests and diseases. Use Bordeaux mixture or powdered sulfur for mildew and rust. arsenate of lead for insects that eat foliage. nicotine sulfate or liquid pyrethrum for sucking insects. Combine Bordeaux or sulfur with arsenate of lead as advisable. For sucking insects use nicotine sulfate or liquid pyrethrum alone when insects are present. All-in-one dusts mix groups for small plant numbers. Begin spraying or dusting when foliage develops, at ten to fourteen day intervals through the season. Cut out and burn diseased cankered parts for brown canker disease.

Fleigh Co. Buys Cumberland Building for Studebaker Service

The Fleigh Motor and Tire Company, dealers in Studebaker and Erskine cars, purchased the Holzhu building in Cumberland. The three story structure will be upgraded for direct freight unloading and refined to serve as a sales and service garage. The company has occupied the site since 1923.

Chief Seeks New Officer for Night Duty

Chief of Police Thomas H. Barber recommended adding an officer for night duty to the Board of Street Commissioners. With president William L. Middlekauff ill, the board delayed action. Barber reported $247 in fines and 57 arrests over the past two weeks, a two-week high for the year.

Asphalt Plan Debated by Commissioners After Fine Payments
