Plan to reduce automobile thefts proposed by Chrysler
Walter P. Chrysler, head of Maxwell and Chrysler, calls for a plan to cut auto thefts after 1924 thefts rose 60 percent from 1923 and more than doubled since 1918. He cites 67 771 cars stolen in 28 cities, with 47 484 recovered and 17 percent not recovered, and argues for a permanent, counterfeit proof, nonremovable car identification mark. He notes car losses valued between 100 million and 126 million dollars and urges reduction.
