German air force launches a minor raid on the English coast near an east coast town. One raider reportedly shot down with no details on force size. The note also mentions green gage plums named after the clergyman who introduced them to England.
Allied forces push inland from Bayeux and Caen as Bayeux falls, with Berlin acknowledging a growing invasion bridgehead. Sup SHQ reports 102 enemy planes destroyed and 9 000 Allied sorties as air forces pound Normandy to 100 miles inside France. Paratroop drops connect with beach landings amid improving weather and resumed beach unloading.
Allied forces seized Civitavecchia near Rome, a vital port with about 36 000 residents, enabling expanded supply routes. Near Subiaco in the Apennines, fighting paused lines on cratered roads as German units retreated toward Avezanno, with 11 Panther tanks found and villages like Venne and Vallepietra occupied. Eighth Army advanced toward Barca Pescocostanzo and Rivisondoli, reaching near Sulmona, Ovid's birthplace, while enemy transport withdrew.
The payroll deduction plan expands to all plants in the county with a $100 per employee quota for June and July. A committee led by David W. Byron announces direct plant contact through treasurer representatives who report progress via supplied cards.
A permanent campaign committee chaired by Byron was formed with five members Rey Danzer Leonard G. Mathias Samuel S. Siite Thurmayn Lindsay and George Humphreys assigned to contact different industry groups. The meeting also featured a showing of the Army training movie Baptism of Fire.

City police announced the arrest of four boys aged 11 to 26 in the larceny of 400 to 500 dollars from the Roy E Reed grocery store on Jefferson street. Two youths admitted breaking in early Sunday morning and about 250 dollars was recovered. The others allegedly spent the rest on bus fares, racing events, and refreshments. Officers said roughly 1,000 dollars was missing and hidden near the box. 126 dollars was found in a paper bag behind an East Baltimore greenhouse and 85 dollars was taken from one youth.
After an arrest in Frederick yesterday morning police say $40 recovered from an outhouse near a boys home. Larceny of several hundred dollars from the Alhambra cafe on South Wotomue Street and a restaurant on North Locust Street were noted as closed without arrests.
Twenty five members of the Clearspring High School graduating class received diplomas at last night’s commencement in the school auditorium. Twenty were girls and five were boys. Valedictorian Janrett Boyd received the Reader's Digest prize. Speakers included Patsy Poole, Ray Kelley, Edna Shirk, John Kreigh, and Vera Miller. The orchestra, under Walter Peterman, performed. invocation by Rev J Wade Wulfman and benediction by Rev Luther L Hare. Class motto and flowers noted.
