Smithsburg Graduation Honors Honor Medals At Commencement
Smithsburg High School closed its graduation week with exercises at the Community House. Josephine Pryor won the scholastic medal for the four year average and activity. Kenneth Spessard received the citizenship medal for outstanding qualities in reading, character, scholarship, and athletics. The program featured prayers, songs, remarks by Keller Newcomer, and commencement speaker Dr. C H Gordonier. Diplomas were awarded to graduates and eighth grade certificates to younger pupils.

A 19 year old woman, daughter of Dr. Alfred F. Hopkins of Washington and niece of artist Charles Dana Gibson, earns the country’s youngest pilot license and flies regularly from Roosevelt Field, Long Island. She first soloed under four years ago and has spent much time aloft since.

Hotel Clerk Arrested in Embezzlement Case
Patrick Henry Etheridge night clerk at the Alexander Hotel was arrested in Washington DC for embezzling about 400 dollars from hotel funds. He was located within half an hour after Deputy Sheriff Joseph Davis alerted Washington authorities and found 232 dollars on him. Deputy Davis rushed to bring Etheridge back.

Orchard worker fatally injured near Fayetteville
Samuel Mowers aged 35 died yesterday when a spraying machine in the White Church orchards of Fred C. Bikly fell on him. He was on the long lever controlling the brakes with Alonzo McClure and Homer Warner. Cause of the upset not determined.
