C P fees questioned over charity charges to customers
The Maryland Public Service Commission order against Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. of Maryland is questioned as C P builds charity costs into customer bills. The Baltimore Sun says AT&T and its subsidiaries paid over 49 million in license fees last year used for charitable gifts and public image campaigns, with Maryland residents seeing about six dollars extra on a typical bill. The PSC barred such charges in 1980, yet the firms continue charitable spending from profits while customers pay.
