Bendell Named On Scout Committee
Alfred S. Bendell Jr. Washington county Scout Executive is named one of four adult leaders for Region Three Camp at the National Boy Scout Jamboree in Washington D C from June 34 to July 9. The jamboree attracts over 23 000 scouts from all states and 24 foreign countries. Bendell will serve as an executive aide for schedules and dispatching.

Transport Refused Passage By Canal
The Panama Canal authority refused transit for the U S Army transport Ludington carrying 680 tons of TNT and hand grenades. Fire crews and medical staff prepared to meet the vessel at the explosion bay in Limon Bay while civilians were kept away. Two Youths Hurt In Truck Mishap Near Cavetown
Two CCC camp youths at Loonsboro were injured when their truck hit a pole on the Beaver Creek Cavetown pike near Cavetown yesterday around 3 after noon. Richard Davis 27 and John Sobotov 17 suffered minor fractures cuts and bruises and were taken to Washington County Hospital. Walker Walls operated the truck. The group was en route from Szimurg to the camp at Boorsdboro. 18 others escaped unharmed.

Hailstorm devastates Hagerstown in 1917 recount
Twenty years ago the Hagerstown area endured a northwest storm that cut a two mile swath across the region. Hailstones from hickory nut to baseball smashed windows, roofs and shutters. The Daily Mail noted more than a million dollars in damage, with one stone measuring three and a half inches. An old horse was killed and a man struck by a stone received a scalp wound as cars were riddled and residents terrified.
